Symphonic Black and Death Metal. The band was founded by two prominent figures in the Portuguese underground: Melek Taus (Jorge Matos, known for his work in Ruttenskalle and Torn Fabriks) and Melkor (José Marreiros, a prolific multi-instrumentalist involved in Apocryphal Wound and Martelo Negro). What started as a studio-based duo quickly evolved into a full lineup featuring Frederico Brum on guitars, Rodrigo Dias (Varkïn) on bass, and Manuel Silva (Hekaton) on drums. The sound of Place of Indulgence is a ritualistic and cinematic journey, characterized by massive orchestral arrangements, deep guttural vocals, and a punishing rhythmic foundation. The album explores dark, psychological themes across seven tracks, including standouts like Overkill Boulevard and Shadows Await Behind the Walls. One of the most talked-about moments of the release cycle was their dark, symphonic reimagining of the W.A.S.P. classic Fuck Like a Beast, which transformed the glam rock anthem into a somber, ritualistic black/death metal hymn. This debut has solidified Nekromatics as one of the most exciting symphonic extreme metal acts to emerge from Margem Sul in recent years.
