MALEDICTION Reductio Ad Absurdum CD

MALEDICTION Reductio Ad Absurdum CD

The album Reductio Ad Absurdum by the Hungarian death metal band Malediction was released through Death Trap Productions. While often associated with the year 2009 in distribution circles, the album was officially published in 2008. This release serves as a powerful debut full-length for the band, who are veterans of the Hungarian scene and are known for their blend of classic, aggressive death metal with slight grindcore influences. Recorded and mixed at the A.C.S. Kultúrmecset Studio, the album features a total of nine tracks, an instrumental intro titled Reductio Ad Absurdum, followed by The Army of Those Begging for Mercy, Nameless, Hymn to Destroy, the two-part suite The Time of Pressure, Flood, Hour-Glass, and the sprawling eight-minute closer Pilgrim's Path. Notably, the lyrics for Hour-Glass are based on a poem by W.B. Yeats, while The Time of Pressure (Part 2) features traditional Eastern meditation themes, reflecting a level of lyrical depth beyond standard death metal tropes. The visual presentation of the CD is also significant, featuring a logo designed by the legendary Christophe Szpajdel and cover artwork by Balázs Jacsó. The lineup for this recording included Zoltán Terdik on vocals, András Gábor (who also plays in Blizzard) on bass, Gábor Schmolcz on drums, and the guitar trio of Ákos Várhalmi, Zoltán Péter, and Zsolt Rumszauer, with Szilárd Walter providing keyboards and effects. This combination of musicians created a sound that is both raging and atmospheric, characterized by intricate melodies and a dark, visceral impact. As the second release in the Death Trap Productions catalog, Reductio Ad Absurdum helped establish the label as a key supporter of the high-quality, uncompromising death metal emerging from Hungary.
