ATER ERA Beneath Inanimate Grime CD

The 2013 album Beneath Inanimate Grime by the Slovenian band Ater Era, released through the German label Pestilence Records, is a profound and unsettling work of Experimental and Atmospheric Black Metal. Serving as the band's second full-length effort, the record marked a significant evolution from a solo project into a fully realized trio, resulting in a sound that is both more complex and more suffocating than its predecessor. The album is characterized by its twisted and dissonant approach to black metal, where primal aggression is layered with psychedelic undertones and doom-paced transitions, creating a sonic landscape that explores themes of social decay, isolation, and existential horror. The record is composed of seven expansive tracks that span nearly an hour, allowing the band to build dense, hypnotic atmospheres that shift between abrasive speed and cavernous, slow-burning tension. The journey begins with the grim Death of the Bell Ringer and the sprawling Drifts of Dead Ground, followed by the haunting My Beast My Age and the oppressive Drowning in the Depths. The second half of the album further descends into darkness with To Shatter Limbs and the Latin-titled Sors Est Quid Sumus, before culminating in the massive, twelve-minute epic Tormented in Limbo. Issued as a professional six-panel digipak CD limited to 1,000 copies, Beneath Inanimate Grime has earned a reputation as a cult classic for those who appreciate the avant-garde edge of the genre, standing as one of the most creatively daring metal releases to emerge from the Slovenian underground.
