KAMPFESWUT Des Barden Schwarzer Gesang CD
Kampfeswut is an underground neofolk and pagan folk project hailing from Germany that crafts a deeply nostalgic, rustic, and historical sonic landscape. In 2022, the project captured the attention of the European underground folk scene with the release of the full-length album Des Barden schwarzer Gesang, a collaborative release brought to the community through a joint effort by the labels Crush The Desert and Acid Vicious. Driven by traditional acoustic instrumentation, stark percussive rhythms, and deep, resonant German vocals, the record evokes the spirit of wandering bards, ancient folklore, and the harsh realities of historical eras, wrapping the listener in a somber, poetic atmosphere. The twelve-track album opens its historical narrative with Einklang Zur Neuen Geschicht, a brief instrumental prelude that sets an inviting yet serious tone before transitioning into the driving, folklore-rich melodies of Der Ruf Der Berggeister. The journey continues through the dark, nocturnal imagery of Finster War Die Nacht and the deep, nature-worshiping acoustic arrangements of Im Walde. The album then shifts into colder, more desolated territories with the brief but chilling Ewiger Winter, followed by the deep maritime mythology captured in Sedna Zu Grund and the airy, cosmic acoustic textures of Gesang Von Sternenlichten. The second half of the record delves deeper into literature, history, and philosophical despair, beginning with the theatrical, dark folk adaptation Die Verführung Des Dr. Johann Faustus. The tension turns inward with the brief, questioning chords of Freiheit ?, which flows into the somber and historical weight of Polenlieder. As the album nears its end, the project introduces a defiant, cynical edge with Was Gehn Euch Meine Lumpen An ?, a traditional-sounding tavern song dripping with grim character. Finally, Kampfeswut brings this grand bardic odyssey to a haunting conclusion with Nachts Steht Hunger Starr In Unserm Traum, sealing the record with a stark, lingering sense of winter misery, historical tragedy, and poetic neofolk majesty.
