GODVLAD Dark Streets of Heaven CD
The 2016 EP Dark Streets of Heaven by the Portuguese band Godvlad, hailing from Aveiro, represents a pivotal moment in the group's stylistic evolution. Released through Firecum Records, this six-track record showcases a sophisticated blend of Gothic Metal and Melodic Death Metal. The core of its sound is defined by the beauty and the beast vocal dynamic, featuring the clean, ethereal vocals of Vanessa Cabral contrasted against the deep, aggressive growls of Sérgio Carrinho. The EP consists of the tracks Broken, Game of Shades, Satisdiction, Knight’s Moves, Kali’s Curse, and the title track, Dark Streets of Heaven. Musically, the release is characterized by dense keyboard layers and melodic guitar harmonies that create a somber, cinematic atmosphere. This was the first recording to feature guitarist Pedro Miranda, who joined just before the sessions began, rounding out a lineup that balanced technical proficiency with emotional depth. The success of this EP helped propel Godvlad to larger stages, including a notable performance at the inaugural Vagos Metal Fest in 2016. Dark Streets of Heaven acted as a crucial bridge between the band’s earlier, more experimental work and their more complex later releases like 2018's Delusional Dimensions. It remains a highly-regarded release within the Portuguese melodic metal scene for its professional production and its ability to balance catchy, hook-driven melodies with the darker, heavier elements of extreme metal. The physical CD edition reflects the band's conceptual interest in the contrast between the sacred and the profane, a theme embedded in both their lyrics and their name.
