GOATCHRIST Pythagoras CD

Goatchrist is a highly ambitious avant-garde and symphonic black metal project hailing from the United Kingdom that explores dense esoteric, philosophical, and historical themes. In 2020, the project unveiled its conceptually complex full-length album titled Pythagoras, released through the independent underground label Non Posse Mori Records. Moving away from traditional occult tropes, the record serves as a grand sonic exploration of ancient mathematics, mysticism, and geometry, translating the life and teachings of the famous Greek philosopher into a dramatic tapestry of blistering black metal, orchestral arrangements, and progressive structures. The mathematical and mystical journey begins with The Initiation of Pythagoras by Thoth Hermes Tresmegistus, a brief instrumental prelude that sets a ritualistic and cinematic tone for the record. This atmospheric opening gives way to the sprawling, eight-minute epic Worlds, which showcases the project's ability to seamlessly blend frantic blast beats and harsh vocals with complex symphonic movements. The musical narrative then dives deeper into sacred geometry and mathematics with the aggressive and precise execution of The Tetractys and Pythagorean Solids, tracks that maintain a tense, intellectual fury. The second half of the album shifts focus toward the cosmic and spiritual philosophy of the Pythagorean school, introduced by the brief instrumental Introduction to Numbers, which flows naturally into the fiercely aggressive yet complex track Numbers. The project then introduces a moment of celestial beauty with the instrumental Harmony of the Spheres, utilizing cosmic, synthesized soundscapes before plunging back into extreme metal depths with Metempsychosis, a dark, eight-minute exploration of the transmigration of souls. Finally, Goatchrist brings this grand philosophical odyssey to a monumental conclusion with The Death of Pythagoras, a nearly eleven-minute theatrical masterpiece that seals the album with a powerful mixture of tragic orchestral majesty and unyielding black metal dissonance.
