FLAGELLUM DEI Order of the Obscure CD

FLAGELLUM DEI Order of the Obscure CD

Hailing from the historic underground scene of Amadora, Portugal, Flagellum Dei released their third full-length album, Order of the Obscure, in 2011 via Pestilence Records. Formed in 1997, the band is a long-standing fixture in the Lusitanian black metal landscape, and this release ended a four-year silence, showcasing a more refined and violent evolution of their sound. The music on Order of the Obscure is a relentless display of Traditional Black Metal, characterized by aggressive, high-speed riffing and a dark, anti-Christian atmosphere. While the band maintains its raw roots, the production on this record is notably clear and sharp, allowing the intricate, razor-sharp guitar work and powerful drumming to stand out. The 40-minute assault includes tracks such as Inferno Em Mim (featuring lyrics in their native Portuguese) and Sacrificial Whore, blending the fast-paced intensity of the Swedish school (like early Marduk or Setherial) with the grim, ritualistic spirit of the Portuguese scene. Visually, the album is complemented by morbid artwork from BlackDeathSign, which perfectly matches the lyrical themes of blasphemy, death, and total damnation. For followers of the Portuguese Scourge, this record is a definitive document of veteran musicians who refuse to compromise their hostile and orthodox vision of black metal.
