DOMMEDAG Marburg CD
The 2020 album Marburg by the Norwegian-Swedish collaboration Dommedag, released via the Portuguese label War Productions and the Dutch label Void Wanderer Productions, is a relentless and aggressive display of Scandinavian black metal. Featuring the musical architecture of Michael Lang (Sweden) and the vocal intensity of Horgmo (Norway), this record moves away from long-form atmospheric structures to deliver a more direct, hostile, and uncompromising sound. The production is sharp and cold, emphasizing a sense of immediate threat and spiritual decay across its eight compositions. The album is structured around a series of high-intensity tracks that explore themes of religious corruption, agony, and the unforgiving nature of the North. It begins with the visceral aggression of Kill and Whores Of Babylon, immediately establishing a tone of total hostility. This momentum continues through the middle of the record with tracks like Souls Of Agony, Cult Maker, and the provocatively titled Cumpriest. The final stretch of the album, comprising The Creator, Winter, and Cold Wars, reinforces the project's commitment to a bleak and warlike aesthetic. By focusing on shorter, more focused song structures, Dommedag created a record that feels like a concentrated burst of traditional black metal energy, solidified by the limited professional CD release that has become a notable artifact in the catalogs of both participating labels.
