CULTIC PULP Crush Conformity / Adrastea CD
The compilation Crush Conformity / Adrastea by the Hungarian death metal band Cultic Pulp was released in April 2022 through a collaboration between Death Trap Productions and Hunug Records. This release serves as a comprehensive discography for the short-lived trio from Pécs, who were active in the early 1990s Hungarian underground. The CD brings together the band's two primary demos, professionally remastered and presented with archival materials like photos, lyrics, and old concert flyers in an 8-page booklet. The first half of the compilation features the Crush Conformity demo from 1992, which consists of five tracks including Kitchen Massacre, Corpse Drowned, and a cover of Carnal Carnage's Overdose of Love. Musically, this era of the band showcases a style of death metal still heavily influenced by thrash metal energy. The second half contains the Adrastea demo from 1993, representing the band's final studio output. These tracks, such as Dead and Again and Forever, shift toward a more necrotic and abstract death metal sound, occasionally incorporating acoustic interludes. The compilation is rounded out with rarities, including a 1993 version of Epilogue and a live recording of My Sins Deepen Me from a 1993 performance in their hometown of Pécs. The line up featured on these recordings consists of Attila Bánfai on vocals and bass, Norbert Varga on guitars, and Gábor Szabó on drums. Limited to 300 copies, this 46-minute collection is considered a vital historical document for fans of Eastern Bloc death metal, preserving the legacy of a band that contributed to the foundational years of the Hungarian extreme scene before disbanding in 1993.
