COLOSSO Zero CD Digipak

Hailing from Portugal, Colosso released their third full-length album, Zero, in May 2023 through Prophetical Productions. This record represents the most ambitious and experimental chapter in the project's history, led by the prolific multi-instrumentalist and producer Max Tomé. While the band’s earlier material leaned more toward a direct and industrial-tinged death metal style, Zero marks a significant shift toward a more complex and atmospheric Progressive Death Metal sound. The music is characterized by a dense layering of heavy riffs, intricate melodies, and shifting dynamics that create a sense of futuristic isolation and existential weight. The entire album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Max Tomé at his own GroundZero Studios, resulting in a high-fidelity sound that captures the nuanced transitions between aggressive outbursts and melancholic, quiet passages. Although primarily a solo endeavor, the album features carefully selected guest contributions that add variety to the vocal and instrumental textures. Thematically, Zero explores concepts of the void, new beginnings, and the human condition in an increasingly disconnected world. Released in a limited edition digipak with conceptual artwork, this album solidified Colosso's reputation as one of the most forward thinking and technically proficient acts in the contemporary Portuguese extreme metal scene.
