BRYGMUS Augury CD

The 2023 album Augury by the Hungarian band Brygmus, released as a professional 4 panel CD digipak via the Dutch label Dying Sun Records, represents a significant evolution in the group's sonic identity. This second full-length effort, released on December 20, 2023, and limited to 300 copies, sees the band pivoting toward a more pronounced Death Doom and Sludge Metal sound. A major catalyst for this shift was the addition of new female vocalist Bogi Szőke, whose performance brings a hollowing, visceral depth to the music that distinguishes this record from their 2021 debut, Vitiate. The album is structured as a 26 minute descent into crushing melancholy, bookended by the instrumental pieces Alpha and Omega. The core of the record consists of four heavy compositions I Become the Mass Grave, Unveiling, It Feels So Good!, and Eradication which showcase the band's ability to weave together slow, agonizing sludge riffs with the atmospheric dread of death/doom. Recorded at Ól Studio and featuring artwork by Mollee Csizmadia, the production emphasizes a suffocating, low-end heaviness that appeals to fans of bands like Primitive Man or Serpentine Path. By refining their dissonant approach into a more focused and devastating death doom framework, Brygmus has crafted a record that feels both more professional and more emotionally taxing than its predecessor.
