BLATTARIA Dream, Dwell, Die CD

Hailing from Oklahoma City, Blattaria is the avant-garde Black Metal vision of multi-instrumentalist Manuel Garcia. Their 2020 release, Dream, Dwell, Die originally released on cassette and later brought to CD by the Spanish label A Fine Day To Die Records is a descent into a labyrinth of dissonance, misanthropy, and existential rot. The project takes its name from the taxonomical suborder of cockroaches, a metaphor Garcia uses to describe humanity as a filthy infestation on Earth. Musically, Dream, Dwell, Die is far from standard black metal; it features complex, spidery guitar arrangements, erratic time signatures, and an overwhelming sense of claustrophobia. The tracks, such as Web of Thoughts and I Hear the Insects, are long and sprawling, blending technical precision with a chaotic, psychedelic edge that sounds both clinical and utterly unhinged. For listeners who appreciate the experimental madness of bands like Jute Gyte, Dodecahedron, or early Krallice, this album is a prime example of the innovative darkness coming out of the US underground.
