BEYOND CARNAGE Profane Sounds of the Flesh CD

The 2018 EP Profane Sounds of the Flesh by the Portuguese band Beyond Carnage, released through Firecum Records, is the debut recording from this death metal project based in the Lisbon/Sintra region. Emerging from the ashes of a previous project called Extreme Carnage, the band utilized this five-track EP to establish their identity within the old school death metal tradition. The music is heavily influenced by the raw, filthy atmosphere of classic acts like Morbid Angel, Incantation, and Bolt Thrower, blending relentless double-bass drumming with cavernous growls and apocalyptic, heavy riffs. The tracklist consists of Infectious Parasitic Fungal God, Necro Wizard, Curse of the Burning Rain, Prophecy From a World Beyond, and the sprawling seven-minute closer R'lyeh, Mother of All Abominations. Lyrically, the EP draws inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft’s cosmic horror, necromancy, and ancient curses, creating a dark and pulverizing landscape that was well-received by the underground extreme metal community. The lineup on this recording featured vocalist João Colosso, guitarists Luís Correia and João Amado, bassist Inês Coelho, and drummer Luís Abreu, with the cover art provided by João Colaço. Professionally released as a limited edition CD, Profane Sounds of the Flesh remains a standout in the Firecum Records catalog for its ability to capture a sense of total devastation without sacrificing a modern, powerful production standard. Since this release, the band has continued to be active in the Portuguese scene, eventually transitioning to a new vocal lineup and expanding their sound through split releases.
