ANGRIFF Sodomy in the Convent CD

The 2021 album Sodomy in the Convent by the Portuguese band Angriff, released as a professional CD digipak by Firecum Records, marked the powerful return of one of the veteran names in the national Thrash Metal scene. After a long hiatus of over a decade following their 2010 EP Art of Aggression, the band—now a duo consisting of OJ Laranjo (vocals) and José Rocha (guitars, bass, and drums) delivered what is widely considered their most hostile and fierce work to date. Released on January 25, 2021, and limited to 500 copies, the album is a scathing manifesto against religious fanaticism and hypocrisy, blending old-school Teutonic thrash aggression with a raw, dirty production that recalls the golden era of bands like Sodom, Kreator, and Destruction. The record features 10 tracks that maintain a relentless pace, beginning with the acoustic intro "The Bishop" before exploding into the ferocious No Saviours No Gods, which notably features a guest guitar solo by Chris Holmes (ex-W.A.S.P.). Other standouts include the title track, Sodomy in the Convent, which is preceded by a chilling sound clip regarding clerical abuse, and the high-velocity assaults of Asmodeus, Acolytes of Hardship, and Profane. The second half of the album continues the battery with Savage Deeds (The Quest of Ladislav Hojer), The Baron of Doom, and T.A.C., ultimately concluding with the blistering Farewell. Recorded at Metalpoint and Hanuman Studio in Porto, the album benefits from the technical contributions of guest guitarist António Baptista (Basalto) and the production of Bruno Silva, cementing Angriff's status as a persistent and uncompromising force in Portuguese extreme metal.
